eBay has long been a great choice for sustainable clothing options, enabling individuals to purchase used, secondhand items. The site is a treasure trove of vintage gems, barely worn garments and sometimes never worn items.
eBay recently expanded upon its commitment to sustainable living by partnering with successful reclaimed clothing designer, Preloved, to launch it’s own line. Preloved by eBay features a nine-piece line, with each item constructed from reclaimed and vintage items. Preloved allows barely worn clothing to live on as sweaters, scarves and totes.
Preloved starts with a basic outline for each item in its collection, then constructs it from pre-owned materials, so each item is slightly different and one of a kind. The line was made from 80,000 wool sweaters, 50,000 wool trousers, 10,000 dress shirts and 7,000 trousers. By utilizing secondhand materials, Preloved kept 150,000 items out of landfills, while also saving the energy and resources needed to create new materials. The energy saved when purchasing a pre-owned sweater over a new one is the equivalent of 68 loads of laundry.
