Vegan Chocolate Rasberry

In the historic district of Miford, OH (a suburb of Cincinnati), nestled amongst vintage toy stores and mom-and-pop banks, is Sugar Cupcakery, the cities only all-organic bakery. A welcome addition to the area, Sugar has a variety of offerings that will please the adventurous and the finicky alike.

In addition to using only organic ingredients, Sugar also has a wide range of vegan cupcakes, including Chocolate Stout, Earl Grey and Vanilla Bean (menu changes daily, and the vegan options sell out fast, so call ahead or check their Facebook page for availability). As a non-vegan, I can say I have never been able to tell the difference between the vegan and the regular cupcakes; they are both equally delicious. They also occasionally offer gluten-free options, and will make batches to order.

I recently tried the Tiramisu cupcake, which stands out as a favorite, being especially good and decadent. For those looking for more standard fare, go for the Chocolate Cupcake, which has the best frosting I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. For those truly looking for something off the main culinary path, I recommend the Pancetta cupcake, which will satisfy both sweet and savory cravings — and tastes better than perhaps it sounds.

Sugar bakes everything fresh each morning, and uses local ingredients whenever possible. They are sold at retailers across the city, and have plans to offer shipping soon, so that those outside of the Cincinnati area can enjoy their treats. I would be happy to serve any of their cupcakes as a dessert at a party, and, as someone who works with children, it is great to have a safe place to buy dessert for kids (and adults) who have food allergies.
